MARCH, 2014 KNITTING & WOOL LEARNING DAY (see photos here!)
TEACHER(S): Visiting Teachers Joni and Sylvia Olsen (Tsartlip Nation), from Salish Fusion Coast Salish Knits (www.salishfusion.ca)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, March 22, 2014, 10:00 am to 12:30 and 1:00 to 3:00 pm (or whatever part of schedule you can attend – see below)
LOCATION: Pender Community Hall, 4418 Bedwell Harbour Rd, Pender Island, BC

OPEN TO: Adults, youth (10 to 18), & children under 10 if supervised by an adult. Learning together upstairs, with beginners/children separately down in Lounge at times.
CLASS FEES: $10/adult, $5 per youth (suggested donation at door), children under 10 free (must be supervised by an adult). Attendance also free if you help with set-up, clean-up, or other tasks. Additional materials costs apply to afternoon Master Class (see below)
WHAT TO BRING & DO IN ADVANCE: Please bring water, lunch, knitting needles and wool/yarn (check re: beautiful local wool, try Nu-To-Yu, & tell us if you need to borrow needles). CLASS DETAILS: Knitting & Wool Learning Day, proposed FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE…
10:00 am: Opening sharing & teaching by Joni, Adam & Sylvia Olsen (all together upstairs)
10:30 am: 1st round of knitting lessons (experienced folks upstairs, beginners in Lounge)
11:30 am: Historical/Cultural slide presentation and discussion (including knitting as an ancient & international art, innovations such as machines, and knitting and wool as sustainable enterprises)
12:30 pm: Lunch break (please bring your own) & informal sharing among knitters
1:00 pm: 2nd round of knitting lessons (experienced folks upstairs, beginners in Lounge)
2:00 to 3:00 pm: Master Class, Coast Salish Colourwork & Knitting in the Round. Project: fingerless gloves, $12 materials cost, bring double-pointed needles, size 6 or 6.5. Everyone, please also pre-register ASAP (saying which parts of the day you plan to attend). Thanks!
